The world's longest urban zipline will zoom you across Dubai's skyline

The world's longest urban zipline will zoom you across Dubai's skyline

If your idea of fun involves soaring across an eye-catching landscape at great heights, then you're probably a fan of ziplines. Journeying from A to B via a taut, suspended wire is certainly a unique way to travel, and it's becoming more popular than you might think. No, we're not all going to start zooming along a cable to get to work, sorry; however plenty of places around the world are getting in on the thrilling high-stakes action. In Dubai, the world's longest urban zipline has joined the fold — and it'll hurtle you across the city's building-filled skyline.

XLine Dubai Marina isn't Dubai's first zipline, with the same company operating a wire over the Dubai Fountain. It does ramp up the fun quite considerably, though. Firstly, it spans one kilometre, which is twice the length of its predecessor, and launches from 170 metres above ground level. Secondly, it boasts two parallel lines — so you can enjoy the ride alongside your fellow adrenaline-junkie bestie, naturally — that reach speeds of up to 80 kilometres per hour. Riders can expect to go from zero to 60 kilometres per hour in 2.5 seconds.

The full experience — from signing up to disembarking — takes 90 minutes, although you'll be in the air for a fraction of that time. And, it'll set you back around AU$236 for one person and $436 for two.

Now open, XLine Dubai Marina joins another spot in the United Arab Emirates in the record-breaking ranks, with the world's longest zipline opening at Jebel Jais, the UAE's highest peak, this month. Elsewhere around the globe, London recently had one, currently letting locals and visitors fly across the city, while Sydney did too, stretching between two skyscrapers 75 metres above Circular Quay. Melbourne flirted with the concept, but it was ultimately too structurally difficult and costly to implement.
